A Very Special Day

I've been cooped up at home for over 10 days, only went out once to CGH for my after-op follow-up appointment this Tuesday. So as far as my friends are concerned, my cell leader was the only person I've seen since I got home from the op. She came to meet me when I went for my follow-up and stayed with me till I collected my prescription at the pharmacy.

Well, staying at home isn't all that bad. In fact, it's comfortable and I'm enjoying the serenity. It's not like I'm at home most of my work days. I'm seldom at home for the weekends even. So actually, it's been a good break, despite the initial period of agony. A break from the monotony of the whole cycle of being out. Having said all these, I must give credit to my mother for staying over and taking care of me. I feel so pampered not having to worry about meals and house-cleaning. Just pure resting and enjoying the cozyness of my own little space. Well, I better not get too used to this.

So how is it a very special day today? Well, I'm glad you asked. Haha...

Today is a break from my break. Firstly, 6 of my colleagues came over to have lunch with me. They "da bao" from the new KFC while I cooked my own mee sua with pork mince, enoki mushroom (jin zhen gu) and chinese celery (qin cai). A hearty meal that took me less than 15 mins to prepare and cook. It's so nice I'm going to do the same again. So thanks to Catherine, Fayanne, Hon Choo, Hwee Hoon, Sheena and Julia for the visit. First time in my life I'm presented with bird's nest (with ginseng & white fungus). 2 boxes some more. I feel so "tai-tai-ish", can. They also brought me much laughter and made me feel like going back to office. They also left me wondering how big a mess is my workstation now.

SAA is reshuffling workstations, see. And since I'm not around, my stuff are at their kind mercy. I think during the 9 plus years I've been with TP, this is like the 8th time I'm moving workstations. 4 of them were major moves (not within the same area). God knows I need all these shifting to clear all the junks I've been accumulating as work progresses. Every move is a time to get rid of those that were seemingly less redundant before. Thus, I see it as a good thing. Maybe I could find some time when I stay overnight during band camp to sort things out. Time to call karang guni again. Ok, that's a bit exaggerated.

This brings me to my other special event of the day. I met up with the supper gang after their band practice at around 10pm. We went to Hui Zhen's good friend's father's western food stall at a coffee shop next to our usual McD hangout. I cut myself some slack on my "qing dan" diet and had fish and chips.

Ok, side track a bit. Suddenly feel like reviewing on the fish & chips I had. The fish was the usual cut with bread crumb batter (I think). The tartare sauce was a bit sweet for my liking. The rest is normal. My personal preference still goes to the kind of fish and chips you get from Fish & Co. cos it reminds me of how they do it in Perth - crispy thick batter on the outside, juicy fillet on the inside, with generous chips on the side. And in Perth, I take away my fish & chips wrapped in pieces of paper - interesting. I also learnt to eat chips sprinkled with vinegar. A bit weird at first, but it's like eating salt & vinegar potato chips. Oh, the thought of the vinegar makes me drool. Another thing I noticed. In Perth, fish & chips means fish & chips. No coleslaw, no other veg, no baked beans, no bread. Just fish & chips. That's how I like it too. I don't mind buying my own tartare sauce.

A big "ANYWAY"! Anyway, my main objective was the company and just simply to have supper with the band members. Today we had a big group. The usuals and the not so usuals. But it doesn't matter. The more the merrier. It's good to see all of them again. Just being in their midst makes me happy. It's something I don't mind getting used to.

Thank You, Abba Father, for a super special day today. Thank You for bringing me through another day of self-discovery with and dependence upon You.
