a. to make indistinguishable; obliterate: to blot out a name from the record.
b. to wipe out completely; destroy: Whole cities were blotted out by bombs.
I pray that the only blotting out in my life would be the transgressions and iniquities following confessions to God and true repentance, and not that of my name from the Lamb's Book of Life.
There are so many instances in the Bible that both types of blotting out have been mentioned. Just do a simple search in this website and you'll see - http://www.biblegateway.com
Indeed, God is capable of both. And He will, because He is a loving and merciful God, as well as a Holy God. He is a Sovereign God who is the sole supreme authority of life and death. And His judgment is final.
"The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." - Revelation 20:13-15
Hell is very real, more real than we might have ever perceived it to be. And the words have been spoken to tell us that it is definitely possible for one's name to be removed from the Book of Life because of disobedience. Once saved is NOT always saved. We need to work out our salvation and serve God His way, NOT our own way or at our own convenience (e.g. when we have the time, when we're not too tired, when God's word is not to difficult to obey).
Satan, who is the accuser of the brethren, works day and night to steal, kill and destroy, to deceive as many as he can. Pst Brian Bailey's vision of Singapore being a materialistic society is a warning on where our nation can be headed if we continue in our own ways. And we can be sure that this is one of the big cards that the devil is playing with, telling us that we need this and that to be happy, to be considered as one who have made it in life. Anything, but God. Do not be deceived into thinking that self-sufficiency and material security will get you somewhere, when all it's really doing is leading you away from dependency on Jesus and His redeeming grace.
"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure (purpose)." - Philippians 2:12-13
Today is the day to get our lives right with God. Do not hesitate if you feel the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart for repentance and to return. We need Jesus now more than ever. Swallow your pride if you think you're too ashamed to face God, or that you doubt if God will take you back. That's another lie of the devil, because God's word is very clear that it is never God's will that any should perish.
"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." - 2 Peter 3:9
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." - Romans 8:1-2
