Testimony Of Worship
My once full litre bottle of Absolut Vanilla was emptied and now stands in my fridge with delicious chilled water. It was a bottle bought a few years back because I liked the bottle. But the content tasted like cough syrup. So it was left untouched till a few days ago when I decided to pour the vodka down the sink.
It didn't take me many moments of heart pain before I tilted the bottle. It's not like I'm an acoholic, or that it was something nice to the palate. But nevertheless, it didn't exactly cost just a few dollars, either.
One evening I was drinking from it again, and I was reminded of the woman, who washed Jesus' feet with her alabaster flask of fragrant oil that costed a year's wage. To others, it may seem like a waste. But to that woman, it was worship. What others think of her could not deter her from expressing her gratitude towards her Saviour.
The Anointing at Bethany
Matthew 6:6-13
6 And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. 8 But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”
10 But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. 11 For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. 12 For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. 13 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
My act of worship was due to a conviction to abstain from alcholic drinks, complying to a standard set by our Worship Ministry. Though it hardly costed me a year's wage, it was a message that I'm sending to my SELF. Clubbing will suffer the same fate. Woohoo! And Jesus' words still stands true. See, after more than 2000 years, we're still talking about this woman's deed!
