The Accidental Queen

Her youth was spent as an athlete, training for heptathlon but due to an accident she was forced to switch career paths. Not having other options she performs at family gatherings, weddings and formal celebrations. On one such occasion, a singing-master hears her and almost immediately begins to teach the 16 year old Erika.

She has not earned a university degree but at the age of 19 she was the youngest opera singer to be contracted by the Hungarian Opera House. Erika has studied in Milan and in the US, has performed the "Queen of the Night' (Mozart: The Magic Flute) nearly 300 times and the role has become a part of her image as, she is requested to sing this role everywhere - Berlin, Paris, Madrid, London, New York, San Francisco.

Besides her talent, they say, she is a delightful, 'attractive phenomenal' - on stage, the air virtually vibrates around her. Sold-out performances and huge successes are characteristics of her career but despite this she prefers the quiet, country life of the Hungarian Bakony mountain region. In fact, she regularly holds exercise classes for the women of the village as, movement and exercise are key to a healthy life. Erika says, "Even though I switched career paths I am still a sportsman at heart. Every performance is like a race, where I have to win and perform to my very best."

I find this article taken from Erika Miklosa's website to be very encouraging. Sometimes people may ostensibly lose something they hold on to dearly, and go into deep depression, of which some could not find themselves getting out. The testimony of this singer causes us to not be discouraged but open our minds to other possibilities. Often, God would take us out of one place as to lead us to better pastures.

And while on the way, remember to pause and smell the flowers!
